Great visuals but narrative lackingGreat visuals and sets and fascinating journey into the early 1960s. However the writing, plot and characterisation and acting is not in the same league as the West Wing, Sopranos and the Wire.
DVD that doesn't work !!!Brilliant programme but DVD faulty and returns process almost inoperable having not attempted to play until 5 months after purchase.
Simply fantasticBeautifully written, fabulously acted. Not many people have mentioned the character of Joan in their reviews. Joan is the absolute stand out character for me. She is the 60's. Saw the actress who plays her in an interview and physically she looked far removed from the character she plays which means hats off to the costume and make up department of this series. They have got it spot on. They created a red headed marilyn munroe - that bites. Fabulous. Love it. This series is the best kept secret. Nothing touches it. Don Draper isn't likeable but you can't help but fall for the coolness of the guy. (Anyone who loves those early Clint eastwood characters will love Don). The comparisons to acceptable behaviour today are real food for thought (smoking in the office, drinking in the office (scotch way before noon)the role of women in the 60's (notably Betty the repressed housewife and Peggy the working girl struggling for recognition and equal rights in a mans world)). For those not around in the 60's the show is historically interesting and accurate.
Great that the box sets are out. I can now share this with a few selected very special friends. It's been a treat to watch.
Must see - GREAT!!!!You just have to see this series - can't be described in words, has to be watched. Full recommendation and admire. Buy it, buy it - but consider the version available featuring season 1 - 3 ;o)
BrilliantOne the true greats. Just make sure you don't have asthma when you watch it!
