Shiva ReaThis is certainly a yoga DVD with a difference and I just love it! The matrix is a brilliant idea it allows you to devote as long or as little as you like and if like me with demanding kids and a busy schedule - this is the right one for you. Shiva Rea has gone all out to create such a beautiful DVD in such a unique setting and a great soundtrack - I definitely recommend it!
Shiva Rea - Fluid powerWow is all I am going to say about this women. If I can learn to move like her and get my body that fit it will fantastic. I have preiviously done Hatha yoga all about the breath and rate myself as intermidate level. This was mad stuff. I went on to the matrix and selected a few short burst to try and was left panting and out of breath and couldn't keep up as so moving and flowing and I was in hots sweats. It is not a bad thing as very different to hatha which holds postures. This one keeps going and quite fast. Once I try breaking it down and mastering small segments at a time it will be truely benefically. My yoga teacher going to workshop with her this weekend and so interested to know what she thinks as likes her work. Not at all for beginners or those not with good core strength but you could work at it as select what suits you. great options to select what you need and like easy to master. I like the meditations and this is a good one for spiritual side of yoga as was buzzing from it once got my breath back and legs stopped shaking. I am going to keep on trying as thing this requirs discipline and practice and will be amazing for mond and body once got it down. I think I will watch it first a few times to learn routines before trying them. But would recommend it if not to mavel at this women!
Perfect yoga sessionsJust a quick word to reflect on this dvd and its content. I could not imagine getting so much from a DVD. It's easy, pleasant, and also sometimes challenging depending on the pre-set you choose.
Worth any yoga class, I highly recommend it!
Challenging and Engaging. Two things struck me first viewing this dvd. 1, the stunning setting (rolling sand dunes and beautiful bright skies) meant to represent the rolling flow of the sea and this form of yoga. 2, The yoga matrix. What a fantastic idea? Ok you don't buy it for the scenary but it sets mood. Now for content.
As always watch through at least once before working with this DVD because she often uses the sanskrit word for the asanas and you may not be familiar with them. She also combines movement whilst in a pose, for example you don't just hold downward dog for several breaths you will move your hips side to side or undulate the spine. This makes it more challenging than a regular held pose.
I would suggest this dvd for strong beginners and upwards and not those brand new to yoga since Shiva does not break the poses down however I don't think this dvd is aimed directly at those totally new to yoga but it is worth mentioning in case you buy this and don't know your down dog from your cobra, I've warned you.
Gaiam do several good beginners dvds to start you off.
As mentioned before the Matrix idea is great! You can tailor a routine to fit your timescale and mood. You have an onscreen chart, you use your dvd handset to select which mini routine(s) you feel like doing, press play and off you go.
I'm enjoying this dvd a lot.
Shiva Rea Doesn't DisappointI already have this DVD for 10 months (bought it from Acacia)and I love it , I use it regularly along with her "yoga shakti" . This style of yoga is a little more creative and fluid than "yoga shakti" (hence the name) but it's definitely more "normal" yoga unlike "yoga trance dance" . On this DVD you also have lots to choose from , it has 6 preset practices :
Backbend Flow - 108 min (a tough one!)
Hip Openers Flow - 77 min
Creative Flow - 63 min
Beginning Flow - 43 min
Lunar Flow for Flexilibity - 41 min
Meditative Flow - 25 min
all of these practices are made from 20 segments you can choose from "Matrix" such as 7 new sun salutations (no traditional boring salutations!) standing pose flow , 2 great backbend flows and a long hip opening flow which I really love and includes some great stretches , some I've nver seen before ,there's also a handstand , a core segment (that is also on her "creative core abs") and opening and closing meditations, the bonus disc includes some interviews and some tips for practicing.
If you have wrist problems this DVD might not be for you since there are a lot of planks /side planks and pushups otherwise go get this DVD!
