Very hard to followThis DVD is almost impossible to follow. It isn't explained very well. For some reason the presenter thinks you are able to look down at the floor and at the TV at the same time. When explaining the positions of certain muscles or joints she does not tell you what or exactly where these are. It's also too quick and basic for you to understand what she means. There is no way of knowing if you are positioning yourself exactly where you should be. She also doesn't explain what this powerhouse is too well and it's hard to know if you're doing it right. If you want to learn pilates I would suggest going to a studio to learn.
Excellent where it countsPilates has been my preferred form of excercise for about 5 years now. I bought this DVD as all my other Pilates stuff is on video and not available on DVD format, so needed to upgrade. This is excellent and offers some better explanations/information on some excercises I know from before, like shoulder bridge for example, and also introduces new excercises like Chalk Circle which is worth the price alone. The DVD seems to have a lot of extras which I'm not interested in at all, like outtakes, but where it matters this DVD delivers in spades and is now an addition to my weekly workout.
BoringHaving practiced Pilates for a number of years I was very excited about this dvd - sadly I was very disappointed. The exercises are very dull and Lindsey Jackson is uninspiring as a teacher. The basics elements of what Pilates actually is, has been totally lost, and sadly it becomes just another fitness dvd.
THE BEST OF ALL WORLDS!This video is stellar! With her impressively proficient, professional expertise, she walks you through a program that not only enhances other physical activities, but seems to be ideal, even as a replacement for the weight training I've done for years! Truthfully, being from the old school, I never thought of embracing these types of training and fitness methods (I used to assume they were more for women), but this is an overall, well balanced workout for all guys! It's fun, much more convenient, and comprehensively all-encompassing! Makes you feel great all over! Wow!!
Pilates DVDI think that the real value for using this DVD as a man, is it's emphasis on developing suppleness and flexibility in the body, and not just muscle mass and strength. Any insinuation that Pilates is in the least bit sissy for men, can soon be dispelled by visiting a local hospital, fitness centre, or football physiotherapy room. Where methods akin to pilates are used for recovery form injury, and more importantly to prevent injury in the first place.
So I think pilates is more of the preventative method to enable the body to be come both flexible & supple, and develop strength appropriately aligned to ones own physical type. Not to neccessarily look like Mr.Universe.
The DVD and content is excellent and easy to use. Calm and at a pace that is steady and not rushed at all. The blokes look like regular guys, and it's fun.
the only thing that I would advise people to do, is because the exercises can be with the head on the ground, one is forever craning the neck to look at the telly! So I would definitely watch the DVD a good few times, memorise each exercise, and save yourself the need to crane the neck up to see what you should be doing! After all, don't want any neck injuries do we? Then one can follow the prompts from the presenters voice. Just a thought.
Cheers.
